Miami Beach of Gold Coast, Queensland is usually a bustling tourist destination, but on this morning, I had the coast to myself – there was not another soul in sight. As I arranged my gear, I listened to the soft creaking of the lifeguard tower as it swayed in the gentle breeze. I knew this slight movement would make a crisp, perfect photograph impossible, but alas, I enjoyed the serenade.
As I settled in to capture the glow of the morning sun as it warmed the lavender sky, I knew I was not alone in my reverie. The watchtower, which had waited so patiently through the night for the coming performance, was also a witness to this break of day.
