Twelve Apostles, The Great Ocean Road, Victoria – Australia
Saying Australia’s world-famous Great Ocean Road holds a multitude of treasures just waiting to be discovered is really quite the understatement. The wildly popular route is widely considered to be one of the world’s most spectacular scenic coastal drives. Among other sights, those that decide to experience it for themselves will enjoy a chance to visit Port Campbell’s Grotto, the Gibson Steps, and Loch Ard Gorge. If there’s one location that attracts more visitors than any other though, it’s definitely the Twelve Apostles.
Once upon a time, there really were Twelve Apostles standing stoically just off the shores of Port Campbell National Park. Today only a lone few remain, but they are no less impressive or awe-inspiring for that fact. ‘Entrapment’ was captured during a tranquil winter’s visit to the stretch of shoreline the Twelve Apostles call home. The sun was just beginning to set as some heavy evening rains prepared to set in. You could see the clouds approaching, full and heavy in the distance. As they did so, they lit up the sky with an unearthly glow.
As the 12 Apostles stood motionless and majestic along the coast, they appeared to be watching the skies right along with me. Delicate pinks, dusty lavenders, and brilliant violets filled the sky, bleeding like watercolors across the sapphire blue sea where the waters met the horizon. As the sun sank below the horizon, I felt completely captivated by what I was seeing. For a moment, it was almost as if I were struck as motionless as the Apostles themselves. I waited patiently with bated breath for the soft, sensual parade of colors to reach its crescendo and captured the shot I was after. Then, only a mere 30 seconds later, the pregnant clouds above burst, drenching me from head to toe with winter rain.
