Mt Gower, Lord Howe Island, New South Wales – Australia
There’s something about the sky during those in-between hours – the hours that hold the border between day and evening, night and morning. It starts with a monochrome canvas full of possibility. And then the brushstrokes of the gods above begin to change it into something marvelous, a masterpiece saturated with wonder and magic. It’s an awe-inspiring process to witness. It makes you aware of how small you are in the grand scheme of the universe and happy to be so.
This shot was captured on Australia’s own beautiful Lord Howe Island just as the sky was softly exploding into a sweet pastel harmony. Baby blue gradually gave way to lavender and dove. The clouds blushed in shades of gossamer peach and sweet lemon cream as they floated gently across the sky, illuminated by the low-hanging sun. The tawny sand and velvet greenery reflected the barest hints of these wonderful hues, as if they too couldn’t quite help drinking in this lovely sight to the fullest as well.
