There is a special kind of beauty to be found in a transition – a magical beauty that causes one’s surroundings to positively vibrate with possibility. One of the most fascinating of these transitions is, without a doubt, sunset. Whether we’ve just spent the day working hard or playing even harder, sunset tends to find us in a reflective mood. We’re still in “on” mode, but we’re more relaxed as we experience a transition of our own. The most wonderful things tend to reveal themselves to people when they’re caught in such a state.
This shot was taken during a particularly beautiful sunset at the end of a long, but fulfilling day. The waves lapped gently at the shore as a perfect sapphire sky bloomed into a patchwork of shell pinks, lavenders, and lilacs. This curiously shaped stump happened to catch my eye as I watched. Something about its graceful curves offset perfectly by the symphony of color taking place behind it made it look very much like a seahorse… or perhaps something even more mystical and majestic.
