Advancetown Lake, Gold Coast Hinterland, Queensland – Australia

In most cases, the term “smoke and mirrors” is used to describe a distraction, usually when you’re trying to cover up something bad.  In this photo, though, the “smoke” represents the swirl of a sky that’s unmarred by clouds.  The “mirror” is the water’s surface – so still that you think for a split second it could actually be glass.

Still, warm, and serene… Those are the best words to describe Advancetown Lake at sunrise.  When you look at the peaceful natural beauty, it’s hard to believe that this is a major water source for the Gold Coast.  It’s a testament to the power that’s lurking just below the surface… It’s smoke and mirrors at they’re very best!
